By Thomas Montano posted May 19th, at 3: In , they mastered the use of a new synthetic rubber called BUNA and by , Metzeler introduced its first tubeless tires for motorcycles. Coincidentally, was the same year I got my first proper streetbike, a Yamaha RD It was by far the best tire out there, and miles ahead of its competitors. Since those days, I have only had the pleasure of riding on Metzeler tires a few times, so when the offer to go to Germany and try its new RoadTec 01 came up, I was in. This is not just an upgrade of its RoadTec Z8, rather it is a completely new tire from the tarmac up; hence the 01 in the name. Part of the press event included going to the factory in Breuburg just outside Frankfurt, Germany, to see first hand how the new RoadTec 01 is built. Unfortunately, I was the victim of a less than desirable airline which dropped the ball and cancelled my flight on the morning of my departure. So I missed the tour.
The Science of Tire Aging
There is more than one sketch on that page to look at. It is not anything critical at all, but to identify the engine blocks you must remove the transmission and clutch, and stamped into the rear of the engine block is a triangle with a N in it. BMW made various changes to the valve gear over a long period of time.
TIRE OVERVIEW Elite 4. Miles, miles and more miles: The Elite 4 with MT Multi-Tread technology in the rear provides significantly more mileage than single compound tires.
But with so many motorcycle battery options on the market, how do you choose the right one for your bike? Some batteries are Absorbed Glass Mat, or AGM, which means they have a mat that absorbs the electrolytes, making the battery very versatile. Other motorcycle batteries are gel-based, with silica gel that suspends electrolytes. One advantage of gel batteries is that they never leak, even if the battery breaks.
The power rating is another important factor. This number tells you how well the motorcycle battery will perform. Look for a high power rating, but keep in mind that the higher the rating, the more expensive the battery will be. Figure out your budget and opt for a motorcycle battery with the highest power rating you can afford.
Which is good to see, but also makes us a little sad at times. Fortunately, there are still a few guys who know how to operate a lathe and build a frame by hand. And Max Hazan is in the top echelon—because he adds artistic vision and historical appreciation to create an intoxicating mix. The bike went way faster than I expected, and I knew that the next bike I built would have to be out of motorcycle parts.
Max hauled out the engine, and put the other trick bits aside for his own SMR track bike. To prevent things from getting too straightforward, he then plumbed in an AMR supercharger.

If not — you should. They may last another three years, but your tread has little to do with it. What is more essential is the age of the tire. Tires are made of rubber, obviously, and when rubber gets old, it starts to dry and crack often times from the inside out — this process is not always visible to the naked eye. Until recently, I had no idea that the age of the tire mattered. I thought it was all in the tread and visible cracking.
I also had no idea that tires have a manufacture date stamped on them.

Tyre width The width of your tyre, in millimetres, measured from sidewall to sidewall. Wheel diameter The diameter height of the wheel in inches. For example, a tyre with a load index of 91 can carry kg of weight. Load ratings and speed ratings should be looked at together when you buy a new tyre.
I was monitoring the forum of a riding club I used to belong to. Every now and then, I hang out with them on a ride. But I noticed it seems everytime they get a new member, the first topic of discussion is what that person’s nickname will be.
One way to save a few bucks is doing your own auto maintenance. One simple way you can extend the life of your tires is regularly rotating them on your car. Tire rotation means changing where the individual tire is mounted on the car. Save yourself the money by doing it yourself. Why Rotate Your Tires? Front and rear tires wear differently. Also, turning wears the front tires at different rates.
In America, we generally take left turns faster than we do right turns. This puts more load on the right front tire which results in the right tire wearing faster than your left.

No worries though, if you want and or need to throw a chic on the back of your Fury you can purchase the passenger seat and foot-pegs fairly cheap. Well, aside from a new color for there are no changes to the Fury when compared against the model. Honda has just released pricing for the Fury. Tuthmosis is a Columnist-at-Large at Return of Kings. You can follow him on Twitter. Like it or not, online dating has emerged as a legit player in the dating market in recent years. What was once the repository for the dregs of female creation has become—for better and worse—a go-to dating option for a growing segment of even top-shelf girls. The whole process is really the product of a perfect storm in the American dating market.
Economic realities and cultural shifts have also made going out less appealing. Girls, as I have written elsewhere, have hair-trigger tolerances for awkwardness and discomfort. A growing number of the quality guys—disillusioned by crushing male-to-female ratios, high drink costs, cockblocking, the fatty epidemic, and other night-life realities—have largely checked out of the club-and-bar scene. After dismissing online dating, for years, as little more than a crutch for approach anxiety, a time-suck with little real yield, and dumpster diving, I slowly recognized these forces converging.
Over the course of the past two years, I have spent, literally, thousands of hours pouring over online profiles, unwittingly learning more about online dating and, frankly, the female psyche than I thought possible in that time. These hours have yielded countless dates and, more importantly, a deep well of knowledge. She gets constant input on Facebook, and elsewhere, about how she looks and when she looks best.

The CB F, continues the tradition. In recent years, the trend has been toward ever-larger capacity mid-sized machines. The four-cylinder middleweight has long been a key machine within the wide range of Honda motorcycles. Genuine middleweights provide accessible and enjoyable engine performance tied to minimal mass, giving the kind of pound-for-pound performance that makes a great place from which to begin — or resume — a motorcycling career.
Brand new from the wheels up — conceived and developed by a young team of Honda engineers — the concept behind its performance is completely different.
The issue came to a head earlier this year when Maryland debated a bill to require Maryland tire dealers to give consumers a printed statement on the dangers of tire aging whenever they sell a tire that is more than three years past its manufacture date. There are multiple and complex issues at stake here. Should tires have clearer dating?
Fitting new tires to your bike has the same nervous anticipation of a blind date. Or will I embarrass myself and fall flat on my face? The case of these new-for Metzeler Z6 sport-touring tires fits the above analogy precisely. But I, like some others have reported, was let down by how much they slowed the steering of most any bike to which they were fitted, how they tended to stand up under braking and how long they took to warm up and grip at sporting lean angles.
The overall result was that they caused the rider to want to hold back from full-tilt sport riding. When I test-rode it, the thing was a total bull in the twisties — heavy, slow, and plodding to the point that we kept double-checking tire pressures, steering head bearings and messed a lot with the available suspension adjustment, all to no avail. As a last resort, I talked him into spooning on a set of Dunlop s and, you guessed it, the bike was transformed.
So I was heartened to learn at the press intro for the new Z6 — held in unseasonably cold Ojai, California — that the current VFR was the main bike used for developing and testing the new Z6. I felt like I had a little secret up my sleeve here and it would be tough for Metzeler to pull one over on me. They actually listened to complaints from customers and journalists, and the problems I described were addressed with the new Z6.
According to Metzeler, this enhances the likelihood that the total tire works as a consistent piece, with less chance of delamination or balance inconsistencies. The steel belt itself is the same zero-degree technology Metzeler has used for years.
Tyre Age – How Old Are My Tyres?
Some bike parts have a date code cast or stamped into the piece. This clearly is when the component was made and not when the bike was made, but unless the component or bike manufacturer had lots of stock lying around in inventory, the date should be a fairly good indication of the year of the bike. At least it would be the earliest date that the bike could have been made.
FRAME No BICYCLE DATING. HOW OLD IS MY BICYCLE? ‘How old is my bicycle?’ is a question I get asked a lot, nearly as much as: ‘I have a bicycle that looks like one of yours; if I send you pictures please can you identify it for me?’.
Always check tire pressure before going on a long trip. Inspect tires for uneven wear patterns on the tread, cracks, foreign objects, or other signs of wear or trauma. Remove bits of glass and other foreign objects wedged in the tread. Make sure your tire valves have caps and the lug nuts on the wheels are tight. Do not overload your vehicle. When purchasing tires, ask the date of manufacture. Recommended shelf life is no more than six years.
Check the tire tread Many newer tires have built-in tread-wear indicators that let you know when it is time to replace your tires. When they appear even with the outside of the tread in two or three places, it is time to replace your tires.

Avoid Having One Why they happen. Only two percent of these chilly tip-overs involve a rider grabbing too much brake lever and overwhelming the front tire, or stabbing the throttle and causing a cold rear tire to break loose. Most riders, in fact, are shocked when it happens. As you leave the pits or ride away from your house , ride slowly and gradually warm the tires.

We have all heard about TM motorcycles, exotic, beautiful, handmade, factory works bike, tiny Italian factory, ect… Most of us have never seen one except for pictures including us. The bikes are everything they are reported to be, plus some. They look exotic, they are very light, and have a lot of hand machined billet parts. If that is not enough, TM makes their own rear shock that is a work of art and works really well also.
The engines have massive power, but are very linear thanks to the electronically controlled power valve. The first EN we got in was gone in five days and we already have deposits for two more. If TM does not have the bike in stock in California, then we can call the factory in Italy and order whatever we want with a 10 day build time.
Biggest change are the Sachs Twin Chamber forks. Sachs is the largest hydraulic suspension company in the world and while not well known in the dirt bike world, they have massive resources to develop the best suspension. A lot of computerized data acquisition has gone into the development of these forks so we are looking forward to the results.
Sachs components have already proven to be very good quality when it comes to wear and durability. Also new for is race valving in the rear shock to go along with the usual list of race graphics and anodized bling. The knobs are more robust and closer together than a true knobby, but not as close together as a trials. Should strike a good balance of soft compound and footprint to get over rocks and roots, but still dig through mud and corner and brake well.

A horsecar, or horse-drawn tram, is an animal-powered (usually horse) tram or streetcar.
To help identify the age of your tyres, each one is imprinted with a coded date which tells you when that tyre was manufactured. The four-digit tyre age code is usually located in a window on the tyre sidewall. The first two digits of the code represent the week of production during the year from 1 to 52 while the second two digits represent the year of manufacture. In this example, the manufacture date code is – where 14 denotes the week of manufacture and 13 represents the year, meaning the tyre manufacture date was the 14th week of If your tyres are printed with only a 3-digit number, it means your tyres were manufactured before and should be replaced asap.
There is no definitive tyre age limit as to when you should replace your tyres but if your tyres are older than 5 years old, you should keep a close eye on their condition and consider replacing them. Tyre ageing is commonly identified by small cracks, known as crazing, which appear in the tyre sidewall.
